Practically-oriented on-the-job training of apprentice animal caretakers and biology laboratory assistants is carried out in the different animal areas and in cooperation with the Helmholtz Zentrum München Institutes and the vocational schools. We also offer work experience positions to students and external trainees.

The apprentices are provided with special theoretical and practical knowledge in thematically arranged block teaching sessions held in the Helmholtz Zentrum München teaching laboratory as part of the Helmholtz Zentrum München training programme and in preparation for the final exams of the chamber of commerce. This in-depth and versatile training ensures the long-term availability of qualified technical staff for biomedical research in the Helmholtz Zentrum München. The vocational apprentice training programme has a total of 36 places; 12 for animal caretaker trainees and 24 for biology laboratory assistant trainees. The course lasts between 3 and 3 1/2years.
