Welcome

Welcome to the research group 'Biological Information Systems' at the Institute of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology (MIPS).

Our research focus is the investigation of multifactorial diseaes like neurodegenerative diseases and diabetes based on the comprehensive understanding of the underlying biological system. Key aspects within this context are:

  1. Novel semantic information integration and processing approaches to determine even large biological system from structured (databases) and unstructured (semantic textmining) information resources. This is our foundation for quantitative modeling in systems biology.
  2. Understanding of microRNA targeting, the resulting regulatory, functional and disease related effects.
  3. Organization of, and correlation within large systems biological networks.
