Comprehensive Molecular Profiling (CMP)

We employ state-of-the-art analytical methods for the investigation of complex molecular systems in the field of biomedical and forensic research.

For characterization of highly complex mixtures of compounds (e. g. metabolomics), comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GCxGC) hyphenated to time-of-flight mass spectrometry is employed. Ongoing investigation focuses on differentiation of metabolic samples of healthy and diseased organisms with well-defined genotype (biomarker detection). Early disease markers are searched for in the prediabetic phase of diabetic mouse models, for example.

Forensic applications are another research topic such as the analysis of samples of illegal drugs the effect of which is based either on herbal (heroin, marihuana) or synthetic (ecstasy) active agents. Another focus is put on online mass spectrometric and offline gas chromatographic - mass spectrometric investigation of the breath gas of hospital patients. Here again, the search for potential biomarkers or metabolites of pharmaceuticals is of special interest.
