Institute of Experimental Genetics (IEG)
The Institute of Experimental Genetics (IEG) is an internationally leading institute in the field of genetics and research on mouse models. It is involved in numerous major international projects, for instance with research partners from Japan and the U.S. in which it plays a coordinating or cooperative role. The IEG is concerned with the functional analysis of the genome of mammals. To elucidate gene functions, mouse models are developed and new methods of genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics are applied. The aim is to elucidate the causes and developmental patterns of widespread diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Here the comprehensive systemic analysis of the disease is of key importance. The German Mouse Clinic (GMC), the Genome Analysis Center (GAC), the research group Translational Diabetology (TD) headed by Professor Hans Ulrich Häring and the junior research group Pathomechanisms in Diabetes Mouse Models headed by Dr. Susanne Neschen all belong to the Institute of Experimental Genetics.
Director: Prof. Dr. Martin Hrabe de Angelis
