German Mouse Clinic (GMC)
The German Mouse Clinic, headed by Scientific-Administrative Director Dr. Valérie Gailus-Durner and Scientific-Technical Director Dr. Helmut Fuchs, studies widespread human diseases such as diabetes mellitus based on mouse models in order to develop new approaches to diagnosis and therapy. The expertise of 14 national and international research partners also flows into the GMC. Standardized investigation methods provide the unique opportunity to study mouse lines, characterizing more than 550 phenotype parameters in a primary screen. For detailed studies in secondary and tertiary screens, further tests are available with more than 500 parameters.

Genome Analysis Center (GAC)
The Genome Analysis Center, headed by Professor Jerzy Adamski, brings together infrastructure and expertise to explore the mechanisms of the genome, transcriptome and metabolome. Using state-of-the-art high-throughput methods, processes can be comprehensively analyzed prior to, at the beginning and during the course of complex diseases and placed in the context of environmental influences.

Cooperative Health Research in the Region of Augsburg (KORA)
The KORA studies (Cooperative Health Research in the Region of Augsburg), headed by Professor Annette Peters, have been investigating the health of thousands of participants from the Augsburg region for over twenty years. The aim is to understand the effects of environmental factors, behavior and genes. The main topics of KORA are questions about the etiology and progression of chronic diseases, particularly heart attack and diabetes mellitus, and for this reason, researchers study risk factors due to health behavior, environmental influences and genetics. Questions concerning the utilization and cost of health care are examined from the perspective of health services research.
