MuKiS
The German Gestational Diabetes Prospective Cohort Study has shown that women with gestational diabetes mellitus have an increased risk of ~50 percent over ten years of follow-up post partum to develop type 2 diabetes. Other studies have demonstrated that a change in lifestyle with a balanced diet and physical activity can prevent the development of type 2 diabetes.
Therefore, we launched the MuKiS-Study in collaboration with Prof. KTM Schneider (Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Klinikum rechts der Isar, TUM) and Prof. Renate Oberhoffer (Institute of Preventive Pediatrics, Department of Sport and Health Science, TUM). MuKiS stands for (Mutter-Kind-Sport) mother-child-sport in Munich. The study is a pilot study and aims explore outcome in the newborn and in the mother in women exposed to sport intervention and good metabolic control compared to no intervention.
Women participating in the MuKiS study, will receive an exercise program under professional supervision, a free ultrasound examination including examination of the heart of the unborn child and a medical and physical follow-up examination. Currently, fourteen women take part in the study. The study will still continue to include participants with gestational diabetes between the 24th and 30 Week of pregnancy.
