Munich Diabetes Bioresource

The Munich Diabetes Bioresource is a resource of non-diabetic children and adults who are willing to donate blood samples for the research of links between genes, immunological factors and the development of type 1 diabetes.

Details about risk factors, altered immune responses and associated genes are still unknown in the development of type 1 diabetes. By comparing patient samples with samples from non-diabetic controls, we hope to find significant differences and to learn more about these important pathogenetic factors.

Children and young adults between two and 40 years are eligible for the study. Exclusion criteria for Munich Diabetes Bioresource includes: medication that affect the immune response (e.g. cortisone) or concomitant disease which may cause change in the immune response, such as malignant tumors.

Information on family and medical history will be collected once in our study center in Munich and a blood sample will be taken. In the next ten years after enrollment into the trial, participants might be asked again to voluntarily donate blood for immunodiagnostic purposes with.

For each blood sample will be paid an allowance of 50 €.
