TEENDIAB study

The TEENDIAB study investigates the period of puberty in the natural course of type 1 diabetes development. Little is known about this period; therefore TEENDIAB recruits children aged 6 to 10 years and who have a first degree relative (mother, father or sibling) with type 1 diabetes.

All TEENDIAB children will be followed until the age of 18 years. Environmental factors like diet, physical activity, psychosocial factors, pubertal development and growth will be investigate in the TEENDIAB study. All children will be tested for islet autoantibodies, these are early markers for type 1 diabetes. The TEENDIAB study is still looking for study participant.

TEENDIAB is a Germany wide study and is supported by the Kompetenznetz Diabetes, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
