Associated Groups

The Institute of Developmental Genetics harbours two associated groups which provide strong ties and constant scientific exchange with the Max-Planck-Insitute of Psychiatry (Munich) and the "Deutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen (DZNE)"

  • The Clinical Cooperation Group (CCG) “Clinical Molecular Neurogenetics”, located both at the Helmholtz Center München and the Max-Planck-Institute of Psychiatry is headed by Jan Deussing (MPI) and Wolfgang Wurst (HMGU). This group focuses on deciphering the molecular basis of stress-induced behavioural changes, as well as on modelling depression and anxiety-like behaviour. This group integrates latest technological advances in mouse genetics into psychiatric research, as well as the progress made in clinical translation by modelling disease candidate genes mimicking human pathology.
  • The group “Modelling Neurodegeneration”, associated to the DZNE Munich and located at the Helmholtz Center München IDG is headed by Marcus Conrad. The focus is put on oxidative stress (ROS) and its impact on neurodegneration. In particular this group is studying the roles of glutathione (GSH) and thioredoxin on interacellular ROS regulation.
