Mission

Health care systems are posed with the challenge to provide all citizens with health services that are both of high quality and financially affordable. Rapid advances in medical technology and profound changes in demography increase the problems of balancing the quality and the cost of medical care. Thorough evaluation of the structures and processes of health services is indispensable for rational decision-making.

The objective of the Institute of Health Economics and Health Care Management (IGM) is to contribute to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of health care. This is done through multi-disciplinary efforts in research and development, applying empirical methods and focussing on the economic and managerial aspects at all these levels of health care: system, therapies and technologies, individual actors. The Institute's research topics include:

Translational Health Economics

  • Analysing the translation of medical discoveries into clinical and public health practice from a health economic perspective
  • Studies on social and economic factors in health and health care

Economic Evaluation

  • Economic evaluation of medical and other health-oriented interventions
  • Development and use of evaluation methods
