Overview
The institute is engaged in the field of "Environmental Health" and focusses on the health relevance of aerosols. To understand the effects of aerosols on human health including molecular mechanisms, we physically and chemically characterize the aerosols for exposure and determine their dosimetry. To address the phenomenon of individual susceptibility, we identify genetic and acquired risk factors. The understanding of these basic mechanisms enables us to detect inflammatory processes in the lungs at an early stage and to develop new therapy concepts together with our clinical cooperation group.
Main areas of research
- Characterization of environmental and model aerosols
- Exposure and dosimetry
- Identification of molecular pathomechanisms
- Analysis of susceptibility and genetic disposition
- Aerosol diagnostics and therapy
