Immune Monitoring Platform

The Immune Monitoring Group of the Helmholtz Zentrum München - German Research Center for Environmental Health is a consortium of scientists of the Institute of Molecular Immunology and the Institute of Virology of the Helmholtz Zentrum Munich, the Institute of Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Hygiene of the Technical University of Munich and the Laboratory for Tumor Immunology of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich.

The diagnosis of a serious disease, for instance cancer or HIV, has a deep impact on the life of an individual and his/her family. Through research in medicine and immunology it has become possible to develop promising new experimental immunotherapies during the past years. These experimental therapy approaches become available to patients through clinical studies. It is hoped that patients will profit from these developments through improved survival times and life quality.

To evaluate the impact of experimental therapies it is necessary to have reliable monitoring methods available to assess immune responses in patients entered into experimental immunotherapy trials. The Immune Monitoring Group is an important part of the technology platform "translational medicine" which bridges clinic and basic research.
