Functional analysis of endoderm development

The early mammalian embryo consists of three primary germ layers: the ectoderm, the mesoderm and the endoderm which will form all embryonic structures. We focus on the endoderm which gives rise to the gastrointestinal tract and its associated organs, such as lung, liver and pancreas. We are interested in factors and pathways which regulate endoderm development and its specification. For this purpose we generated endoderm-specific Cre mouse lines to identify tissues and organs which derive from endoderm progenitor cells and to inactivate genes of interest within the endoderm to understand the mechanisms involved in endoderm formation and organ specification.
