Lysimeters
The lysimeters are inside the area of the Helmholtz Zentrum München. They have 1 m² bases and 2 m length. Altogether there is place for 48 lysimeters.
- all lysimeters are weighable with piezoelectric cells (precision 100 g) for instance for the calculation of the water balance.
- 16 lysimeters are located in a control area for experiments with radio-active substances
- they can be used with closed chambers to measure gas exchange
- instrumentation with sensors in five depths (30, 50, 80, 155, and 190 cm). Continuous measurements of the water resources (suction power, soil water content) and the soil temperature, to gather hydraulic and substance specific processes
- data logging (every 10 minutes maximum)
- segmented and unsegmented bases

- Segmented lysimeter base with 8 leakage tanks
- determination of the water flow using tracer-hydrological and hydraulic methods
- establishing of cycles of model substances including voliatile, plant available, and metabolic compounds (also of unknown chemical structures)
- the lysimeters as close-to-nature experimental setup are inside an 1 ha farmed area with defined crop rotation
- research of environmental pollution under actual and future environmental conditions are linked between lysimeters, ground water research areas, exposition chambers and greenhouse cabins.
- for determination of mass balances in the lysimeters the Helmholtz Zentrum München dispose of most advanced physical, microbiological, inorganic and organic analytic methods
