Ph.D Position in Systems Biology of Small Molecules
The new research group “Systems Biology of Small Molecules” led by Dr.
Mónica Campillos at the Helmholtz Zentrum in Munich has a Ph.D positions open available immediately.
We expect the successful candidates to develop computational methods to
integrate existing datasets from small molecules and proteins with new data
generated in collaboration with experimental groups. The final goal is to
understand better the mode of action of small molecules in biological systems,
their phenotypic effects and to predict their impact on human diseases.
We welcome applications with a Diploma/Master or equivalent degree
preferably in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or Chemistry/Biology with a
computational component. Programming skills and interest on biology are
mandatory.
Highly motivated candidates can apply by sending a cover letter, CV and
names and contact information of three references to
monica.campillos@helmholtz-muenchen.de.
Payment will be according to the German TVöD
(1) New Scientific Manager SysMBo (06/2009)
The Institute of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology (IBIS) at the Helmholtz-Center for Environmental Health (Munich) wants to fill several research positions within the framework of the Systems Biology Consortium on Metabotypes (SysMBo) funded by the BMBF as part of the Medical Systems Biology initiative. Scientific Manager A 3-year position for a scientific manager within the BMBF funded network “Systems Biology of Metabotypes (SysMBo) TVÖD 13/2; 19 hours/week. The Scientific Manager of SysMBo is responsible for all administrative and organizational issues including the compilation of regular reports, the organization of scientific meetings, as well as the communication with the Helmholtz Centre’s administration. The position supports the co-ordination of the 3 year interdisciplinary program joining/involving 9 groups and is responsible for the publicity of the program in scientific and public media. A scientific education in life sciences, preferably in biology/biochemistry and a sound understanding of the research topics in SysMBo is a prerequisite as well as sound experience in scientific project management.
Please send curriculum vitae to Prof. H.W. Mewes. E-mail: w.mewes@helmholtz-muenchen.de. Informal inquiries are also welcome.
(2) New Postdoctoral Research Fellow to develop Qualitative Models for Metabolic Diseases (06/2009)
A 3-year position for a postdoctoral fellow in the field of qualitative models for the analysis of metabolic diseases is open for applications. The work includes the extraction of information related to the genotype/phenotype relations (data collected by the experimental partners in the consortium). A data processing pipeline for the rationale compilation of interactive networks to interpret metabolic phenotypes will be established based on the existing framework of network and knowledge integration software. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics or an equivalent strong background in informatics and network analysis. Programming experience is a prerequisite. IBIS offers career development and a vital and successful scientific environment in multifold collaborations with the experimental institutes of the Helmholtz Centre for. Environmental Health. Please send curriculum vitae to Prof. H.W. Mewes. E-mail: w.mewes@helmholtz-muenchen.de. Informal inquiries are also welcome.
(3) New Doctoral Students Position in Modeling Pathophenotypes (06/2009) A PhD position (3 years; salary scale TVÖD 13/2) is available for Based on knowledge analysis and network integration from public sources, a generic model for the compilation of qualitative sub-networks will be developed as a graduate thesis. The aim is to facilitate knowledge and data integration and to incorporate up-to-date information into a system that links automatic information extraction with curated network models. Components for the dynamic interaction of the biologist with the Knowledge-Management System (GeKnowMe) should be developed and benchmarked. As a further step the interference of siRNAs with the model should be used for the perturbance of the model. The successful candidate will be part of the Helmholtz Graduate School and benefit from the program fostering interdisciplinary education and personal skills development. The position is part of the SysMBo programme. Applications should be submitted in electronic form to: Prof. Dr. H.W. Mewes, Helmholtz-Zentrum München, 82764 Neuherberg; w.mewes@helmholtz-muenchen.de. Telephone 089 3187 3580.

(I)The Institute for Bioinformatics and Systems Biology / MIPS plans to fill the position of a Postdoctoral Fellow in Comparative Plant Genomics and Computational Biology. The candidate will have an interdisciplinary training with strong bioinformatics background and plant biology knowledge. He/she will develop a strong cereal integrative and comparative plant genomics research program. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in biology, bioinformatics, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, evolutionary biology, or related fields, and demonstrated experience in bioinformatics as well as expertise in at least one scientific programming language and relational data management system.
Applications with CV, list of publications, references, certificates, and a short description of research interests should be sent in electronic form to Dr. Klaus Mayer, IBIS (kmayer@helmholtz-muenchen.de).
(II) A position as bioinformatician/biologist is available for the development of methods for comparative analysis of fungal genomes.
