Legal and Technology Transfer Department

On the basis of know-how developed at Helmholtz Zentrum München and due to research projects performed we own a broad spectrum of new, innovative and competitive technologies, particularly within the field of biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical technology as well as environmental analytic processes. One of the primary objectives of the Legal & Technology Transfer Department is the appropriate protection of our know-how and intellectual property in the frame of co-operation projects as well as the identification, validation and proper protection of new technologies. Additionally the department’s Technology Transfer Division advises scientists in patent and license matters, conducts search regarding state-of-the-art of science and technology and initiates the steps required for proper protection of new technologies. In close co-operation with Ascenion GmbH we take care of industrial co-operation agreements and maintain contacts to both existing and potential licensees.

The Legal & Transfer Technology Department is the central interface between scientific research and industrial application within Helmholtz Zentrum München. Our patent portfolio covers approximately 125 patent families at present.

Partnership with the industry

Apart from co-operation with universities and not-for-profit research institutions for the development of the bases for a future medicine and supply as well as for the research of ecological systems with substantial meaning for the human health, Helmholtz Zentrum München also maintains partnership with industrial partners. The aim is to make achievements of our basic research commercially usable either in cooperation with or via industrial partners.
