AIDS vaccines

Within the framework of the EU-project „AVIP“ (AIDS Vaccine Integrated Project) we develop new combined vaccines for HIV prevention and therapy.
One such candidate vaccine is a modified vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA) expressing the HIV regulatory protein Nef. This vaccine has been developed at the Institute of Virology and we demonstrated its safety and immunogenicity in a therapeutic setting (Cosma et al. Vaccine 2003).
A planned clinical trial will evaluate the immunogenicity of the MVA-nef vector in healthy individuals in the context of the AVIP consortium.
