Rural Patients Access Specialty Care Via Telemedicine |

Barrett Hospital and Healthcare has partnered with Partners in Health Telemedicine Network to connect patients in rural southwestern Montana to medical specialists in Billings, Mont.; Utah; and Colorado, the Montana Standard reports.
The telemedicine program, which uses two-way videoconferencing technology to connect the patients with the specialists, is transmitted via a secure connection to St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings, where it is relayed to either the University of Utah or Denver Children's Hospital.
The system uses a viewing monitor and camera at both sides of the network, and specialists can communicate with patients in real-time and view the patient's area of concern in high-resolution video, the Standard reports.
The telemedicine program also is used to train physicians, staff and emergency medical technicians, as well as for administration and staff to participate in offsite meetings to save time and money.
