How Often Do U.S. Adults Search for Health Care Information Online? |

Eighty-four percent of online U.S. adults and 71% of all U.S. adults have ever searched for health-related information online, according to a new survey by Harris Interactive. This is up from 2005, when 72% of online U.S. adults and 53% of all U.S. adults had ever searched for health-related information online.
The survey also found that of those who have searched for health information online, 88% of respondents said they were successful, compared with just 6% who said they were unsuccessful. In addition, 86% of respondents who have ever searched for health information online said they believe that online health information is reliable. Seven percent of respondents said they believe it is unreliable, according to the survey.
Fifty-eight percent of respondents who have ever searched online for health information said they have discussed the online information with their physicians in the past year, compared with 42% who said they have never discussed with their physicians health information they have found online, according to the survey.
The survey also found that 55% of respondents who have searched online for health information said that a discussion with their physician prompted them to search for medical information online.
