Kyriakos A. Kioulafas: a great supporter of medical informatics left us |

Professor Kyriakos A. Kioulafas passed away on 17 October 2011
Kioulafas was born in 1940. He was Professor at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in the Department of Economics and Finance. He served as Dean of the School of Law and Economics and as Head of Department of Economics and Finance at the same University.
He was the Founder and Director of the private educational and research Institute of the Eastern Aegean (INEAG), an Institutional Member of EFMI, hosting the annual ICICTH Conference (International Conference on Information and Communication Technology in Health Care) on Samos Island 10 times.
He was full of plans for the next years. Summer schools and conferences on health informatics were discussed and planned last July. There is a hope that his work will be a basis for the future. EFMI will do its best to continue his work.
He graduated with PhD from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh in 1976, received an Honorary Doctorate from the Russian Academy of Administration, and was accepted as a Member in the Russian Academy of Information Technology and Communication.
Professor Kioulafas was CEO of the Greek Telecommunications Organization (OTE) in 1990-92. He was Member of the Board of the Postgraduate Programme in Healthcare Management and Health Informatics of the University of Athens in 1998-2011. He published numerous scientific papers in international journals.
