DIAB-CORE

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is funding a national disease-related competence network involving several centres and research consortia working on type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The funding measure is also aimed at increasing the efficiency and interdisciplinarity of clinical research as well as enhancing Germany’s research profile in the field of health research.

The DIAB-CORE (COllaborative Research of Epidemiologic Studies) Consortium combines data from six population-based prospective studies throughout Germany, containing more than 25,000 well-characterized persons (1,800 prevalent and about 670 incident T2DM cases). Under the coordination by Dr. Wolfgang Rathmann (German Diabetes Center, Düsseldorf), partners from Berlin, Essen, Greifswald, Halle, Munich, and Münster will constitute this network.

The IGM contributes to the DIAB-CORE consortium by coordinating the subproject “Economics and Health Care Research in T2DM” and by participation in the collaborative research on the analysis of regional and social disparities in T2DM prevalence and incidence and in risk factors in Germany.
