Project Nanosafe 1:
"Risk assessment in production and use of nanoparticles with development of prevention measures and practice codes" (2003-2004)

General:
The project assessed risks involved in production, handling and use of nanoparticles in industrial processes and products, as well as in consumer products. The objectives were to assemble available information on the possible hazards of nanoparticles, to evaluate risks to workers and consumers, to recommend regulatory measures and codes of practice to obviate any danger. The group of nine partners included laboratories developing nanoparticles or materials, companies presently making or using nanomaterials, medical research laboratories in pneumology and epidemiology, and a large national industry professional association. At the conclusion of the project a conference was held and a summary report published.

Funding:
The project was funded by the European Community under the "Competitive and Sustainable Growth” Programme, Contract G1MA-CT-2002-00020.

Study period:
2003 – 2004
