A) Practical Course "Proton Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) analysis"
Goal:
To introduce students in physics to current research topics in material science
Practical part
Introduction to elemental analysis by PIXE and to sample preparation techniques
Course schedule:
First day
- Theoretical basis of proton induced X-ray emission, ion accelerators and energy dispersive X-ray analysis Practical analysis of different samples
Second day
- Introduction to sample preparation techniques
- Production of reference materials using plastic foils as backings
- Small-area samples prepared from liquid solutions by the droplet technique
- Large-area samples grown in vacuum by vapour deposition of pure metals

The number of participants is limited to 3 students per group and 2 groups per day.
