A conference to discuss the future of aerosol research at the GSF was held in Bad Wiessee from 17-19th February, 2000. Representatives of the GSF bodies and institutes participated in the conference as listed below:
- Scientific technological department (WT)
- Institute of Epidemiology (EPI)
- Institute of Inhalation Biology (IHB)
- Institute of Ecologic Chemistry (IÖC)
- Institute of Radiation Protection (ISS)
- Clinical Cooperation Group Environmental Dermatology and Allergology (UDA)
It became obvious that there was a general wish to see a tighter, more coordinated concept for aerosol research under the umbrella of a new interdisciplinary form of cooperation. For the time being this project is to be called “Focus Network”. During the course of the conference the institutes involved identified and outlined 15 cooperative projects which will help to solve scientific problems common to all the institutes and which could not be solved without interdisciplinary cooperation.
