The Research Unit Molecular Epidemiology (AME) runs the biobank of the Institute of Epidemiology. The biobank is a major resource for researchers working in the fields of prevention, diagnosis and therapy of complex diseases.

The core of the biobank is KORA, a population-based cohort that collects biosamples since more than 30 years. Additionally, the biobank stores samples of the KORA myocardial infarction registry, of the child studies GINI and LISA, of the DZIF transplantation cohort and from a number of other scientific partners.

Based on this experience we are now in the process of establishing a Core Facility Biobank that will offer services around biobanking to Helmholtz institutes and collaboration partners.
