Scientific Focus

  • The independent Research Unit Analytical BioGeoChemistry (BGC) investigates chemical interactions at interfaces of bio- and geosystems. Our mission is a better understanding of chemical processes in microbial ecosystems in health and environment and an identification of the small molecular keyplayers, their structure and functions. BGC operates an (ultra)high resolution analytical platform involving separation, spectroscopy, spectrometry and mathematical methods, to describe organic structural diversity with space and time resolution in the fields of metabolomics and metallomics. The BGC is a part of the Department of Environmental Sciences.
