Effect of nitric oxide on gene transcription - S-Nitrosylation of nuclear proteins

NO can regulate gene expression at different levels. On one side, it can initiate signaling cascades or modify proteins involved in signal transduction pathways. On the other side, redox-sensitive transcription factors can be also targets for S-nitrosylation and NO can also affect redox-dependent nuclear transport of some proteins. We are analyzing the function of NO in regulating chromatin modulation, gene transcription and/or general nuclear metabolism in plants.
