The importance of S-nitrosothiols for plant physiology in general is obvious.

Especially, S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO) is playing a key role in NO metabolism. It is considered to represent an important signaling molecule that act both as NO donor and NO reservoir, and analyses of plants impaired in GSNO metabolism have highlighted the importance of NO in plant disease resistance, thermotolerance, and plant growth. The breakdown of GSNO by the GSNO reductase (GSNOR) is a mechanism to regulate the cellular NO/SNO system.

We are analyzing the physiological importance of fine-tuning the levels of NO/SNO by GSNOR during plant defense response and how this enzyme is regulated.
