RESEARCH FOCUS

In July 2019, Svenja Offer began her PhD in the aeroHEALTH research project, which aims to understand the biological and health effects of atmospheric aerosols mechanistically. The overall objective of the international project is to combine information on primary emissions and to simulate aerosol aging under atmospherically relevant conditions. This is done in short and long time scales in an oxidation flow reactor to link laboratory observations with the observed health effects. In her work, Svenja is characterizing the toxicological effects of primary and aged aerosols on lung cell culture models using the in vitro Air-Liquid-Interface (ALI) model.
