TOPIC VII "Aerosol/Laser-MS"

Aerosols play a significant role in the earth climate, evoke substantial disease burden and environmental effects. A current WHO study attributes 7 million premature deaths per year to air pollution (World Health Organization, 2016). The aerosols physical and chemical complexity and its permanent changes (e.g. solar radiation, aging) complicate effect assessments.  Our research focuses on novel real-time techniques for physical and chemical characterization of ambient aerosols.

  • Laser ionization of complex gaseous mixtures and particles
  • Ultrafast laser ablation and ionization in mass spectrometry
