Stephanie Binder started her PhD in November 2018 at CMA and is focusing on the adverse effect of semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOC) at the workplace. SVOC constitute a gas-particle-composition in which both components occur in coexistance. This fact challenges the risk assesment of the exposure of those hazardous substances at the workplace. Using the in vitro Air-Liquid-Interphase (ALI) model, this challenge will be overcome by detecting both components separately. It allows furthermore the investigation of how far the aggregate phase of a hazardous substance effects the respiratory system and on which cellular level these effects will be reflected. The project is financed by the “Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung” DGUV.
