In August 2019, Elena Hartner started her PhD in the research project AeroHEALTH, which aims to understand the biological and health effects of atmospheric aerosols. To investigate how atmospheric aging affects the health impact of aerosols, aerosol aging is simulated under atmospheric relevant conditions in an oxidation flow reactor. In her work, Elena is characterizing the chemical composition of primary and secondary organic aerosols with a focus on the particle and gas phase by means of comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography and spectroscopic techniques.
