About us

Comparative Medicine is an independent research unit focusing on laboratory animal science. Other main tasks are animal facility services and vocational training.

The research and development programs are devoted in particular to laboratory animal hygiene, reproduction biology and animal welfare as well as to modelling human diseases. These research activities form the scientific basis for our services.

As a central service platform for the Centre’s biomedical research we provide state-of-the-art breeding and husbandry of rodents and fish. Comparative Medicine also contributes to planning, application and implementation of animal experiments according to scientific standards and animal welfare by regular consultations with the Center’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
