Health monitoring

M. Brielmeier

Standardization and provision of laboratory animals with a high hygienic status are key to successful biomedical research. To ensure this, we monitor all SPF areas using sentinel mice as recommended by the FELASA. Along with housing mice in individually ventilated caging systems questions regarding the reliability of sentinel monitoring arise. Alternative monitoring strategies like the analysis of exhaust air dust samples by PCR are in the focus of our current research projects.

Current projects:

  • Effect of opportunistic pathogens on metabolic studies in mice (PhD thesis M. Wunderlich)
  • Effect of murine astrovirus on the physiology of mice
