The research and development (R&D) programme of Comparative Medicine called "Laboratory Animal Sciences R&D" is integrated into the Helmholtz research programme "Genes and Environment in Common Diseases" (GEnCoDe). It focuses on:

  • conditional knockout techniques in the context of metabolism and redox homeostasis
  • new concepts for health monitoring programmes for IVC-housed colonies
  • development of diagnostic tools for murine pathogenes
  • transmission of mouse pathogens by reproductive techniques
  • effects of environmental enrichment on physiological and welfare-related paramters in mice
