Areal dosimetry

The local dosimeters used in the evaluation points consist of a detector card with four elements in order to measure the equivalent dose of the surrounding area H*(10), caused by roentgen-, gamma- and neutron radiation. Depending on the operation site, detectors with 6LiF (Mg, Ti) or 7LiF (Mg, Ti) are used.

If the detector is met by ionizing radiation, emission centers arise in the crystal. They are activated to emit fluorescent light by heating up. The intensity of the light serves as direct measure for the irradiated dose.

TLD card type T7

TLD-Cards of the type T7 are used in order to define the local dose of the photons in the surroundings of nuclear plants. The card consists of four elements only containing the isotope 7Li, thus they are only sensitive towards photons.

For the use of TLD-cards you need a H*(10)-capsule, which you can conveniently acquire from us. If the monitoring period is finished, the change of the TLD-cards will be done on-site by the supervised company.

The evaluation will then be done by us, your monitoring service.

TLD card type T6

TLD-Cards of the type T6 are also used for monitoring the surroundings of nuclear facilities however they are designed for defining the local dose of neutrons. The cards are inserted in a polyethylene ball.

This TLD-card has two elements only containing the isotope 6Li and two elements only containing the isotope 7Li. The isotope 6Li is sensitive towards neutrons as well as photons however the isotope 7Li is only sensitive towards photons. The amount of neutrons is then defined by the difference between both isotopes.
