Extremity dosimetry

A partial-body dosimeter provides measured values of the personal surface dose Hp(0.07), which is a sufficiently accurate estimate for the determination of the body doses "local skin dose" and "organ dose of the hands, feet, forearms and ankles". Partial-body dosimeters are worn on the part of the body that is exposed to radiation and for which surveillance is required.

The thermoluminescence (TL) dosimetry is a widely used method for measuring the personal dose. Our ring dosimeters are ideally suited for the official surveillance of the personal surface dose in photon or photon and beta mixed fields.

Our standard ring (type W) covers all the current requirements for partial-body dosimetry. For activities in radiation fields with very low energy, we offer a special ring (type X) with an extended measuring range.

Our rings are equipped with lithium fluoride detectors. In the ring of type W, the detectors are doped with magnesium and titanium, in the ring of type X, detectors doped with magnesium and copper are used, which are covered by a thin Mylar foil for the measurement of low-energy photons and beta.

Wearing options of the dosimeter

If ionizing radiation hits the detectors, energy is stored in the detector crystal. Upon heating, a part of this energy is released again in the form of light. The light intensity is a measure unit for the absorbed radiation.

Usually, ring dosimeters are worn on the finger for a monitoring period of one month.

Both types of our ring dosimeter are as official partial-body dosimeters approved by virtue of their construction by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB).
