The Institute of Diabetes Research (IDF) is part of the Helmholtz Diabetes Center (HDC), the International Helmholtz Research School for Diabetes (HRD) and the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD). We work closely together with the Diabetes Information Service of Helmholtz Zentrum München. The Director of the IDF is Univ. Prof. Dr. med. Anette-Gabriele Ziegler. She also holds the Chair of Diabetes and Gestational Diabetes at the university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and is head of the Diabetes Research Group at the Technical University of Munich.

To bundle competence, experience, and resources, we work in numerous cooperations in research and practice.

Our studies on the early detection of type 1 diabetes "Fr1da" and "Fr1daplus", as well as "Freder1k" - a study for the early detection of an increased risk for the disease - are supported by Minister of State Melanie Huml as patron, among others.
