Description:Estimation of the direct and indirect costs of rare lung diseases in childhood in Germany and comparison of the healthcare utilization of DPLD patients in different European countries. Data originates from the chILD-EU (Children's Interstitial Lung Disease in Europe) registry. The chILD-EU study consists of one observational trial and 3 randomized controlled trials in different European countries.
Objectives:Aim of the study is to examine the healthcare utilization of ILD-patient in childhood, estimation of the cost of illness and evaluation of different treatment options regarding costs and cost-effectiveness.
Methods:Recruited patients or their parents are questioned retrospectively at routine review periods about their health-related quality of life and healthcare service utilization; furthermore medication and clinical outcomes are also documented. Based on these data we will estimate the direct and indirect costs of illness. We will conduct these analyses also stratified by country and by disease subgroups to get deeper insight into the quality of the healthcare service provision in different European countries and into the course of the different disease entities.

We will perform cost effectivity analyses regarding the randomized controlled trials to find the most effective and the most cost-effective pharmaceutic treatment options.
