Description:The "Youth with Extreme Obesity Study" (YES) is addressed to adolescents and young adults aged 14-24 years with a body-mass-index (BMI)>30kg/m2 and aims not only at offering support in losing weight but also at raising self-esteem and early recognition as well as treatment of comorbidities. It is planned to build up a cohort with scientific follow-up over several years to achieve a better health care for this target group.
Objectives:The aim of the health economic subproject within the YES-consortium is the estimation and analysis of health care utilization and costs as well as health related quality of life in this special and up to now rarely analyzed patient group.
Methods:In the baseline examination as well as every follow-up, data on healthcare utilization and health related quality of life (EuroQol-5D, 3L) is collected. Data on healthcare utilization is priced with unit costs to estimate the resulting costs that will then be compared between different BMI-groups. The association of costs respectively quality of life and other variables will be estimated using multiple regression models.
