Television license fee (GEZ)

Like other EURpean countries, the German state collects a fee for the use of radio and television sets as well as computers.

Since January 2013, this fee must be paid monthly by each citizen who lives in Germany. The license fee currently amounts to EUR 17.50 per month and is raised regardless of the number or type of devices available or used in a household.

The television license fee must be paid even if no radio or television sets are available in a household.

People who move to Germany or those who move into a new accommodation should register for a television license online at: (Online registration - website content only in German)
