Members of the ISS provide services beyond their research work, e.g.

  • Expert advice to ministries (e.g. Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, BMU, and Federal Ministry of Education and Research, BMBF), and agencies (e.g., The Federal Office for Radiation Protection, BfS), national (e.g., German Commission on Radiological Protection, SSK) and international (e.g., UNSCEAR, ICRP, IAEA, EU) professional committees, the media, and the public,
  • Education and training (radiation protection courses),
  • Teaching at Universities and highschools
  • Determination of aircrew radiation doses (EPCARD),
  • Operation of a Regional Center for Radiation Protection (RSZ) on behalf of the Employers' Accident Prevention and Insurance Assocoation.
  • Providing of conversion coefficients (Virtual Human Database) and virtual human phantoms in the download portal (Virtual Human Phantoms)
  • Operation of the Radiation Facilities
