KORA stands for "Kooperative Gesundheitsforschung in der Region Augsburg" (Cooperative Health Research in the Augsburg Region). KORA studies are conducted at regular intervals in order to assess the health status of the population in Augsburg and the surrounding area.

More specifically, KORA is a research platform operated by the Helmholtz Zentrum München (formerly known as the GSF – National Research Center for Environment and Health) to examine the links between health, disease and the living conditions of the population. The main emphasis is on diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases and lung diseases as well as environmental issues.
