In the project "Virological and immunological determinants of COVID-19 pathogenesis - lessons for preparing for future pandemics (CoViPa)", researchers from seven Helmholtz Centres are working together with universities and partners from industry. Together they want to investigate, among other things, what the mechanisms of the disease process are, what targeted strategies against the virus might look like and what the risks are that further pathogens will make the jump from animals to humans.

The CoViPa project is coordinated by the German Cancer Research Center in the Helmholtz Association (DKFZ). From Helmholtz Zentrum München, virologist Prof. Ulrike Protzer is involved in the project. Together with Prof. Ralf Bartenschlager from the DKFZ, she is the scientific spokesperson of CoViPa.

Airborne Transmission of the Sars Coronavirus - From Basic Research to Efficient Air Cleaning Systems (CORAERO)

The project "Airborne transmission of the SARS coronavirus - from basic research to efficient air cleaning systems (CORAERO)" focuses on research and prevention of virus transmission through aerosols and droplets.

Prof. Claudia Traidl-Hoffmann from the Helmholtz Zentrum München is the scientific coordinator of the project, in which experts from a wide range of scientific disciplines work together to develop novel technologies to stop the virus from spreading.
