The Computing Center combines the organization and operation of the central computer center at Helmholtz Zentrum Munchen with research into scientific computing. That is why the Computing Center has a twofold mission:

  • Provision of professional ICT services for all organizational units at Helmholtz Zentrum München
  • Development and use of mathematical and statistical methods for computer-aided analysis and simulation of biological systems

  • Consulting and support: point of contact for issues and problems related to the use of ICT
  • Information: current information on development and status of ICT systems
  • Workplace: provision of client systems, hardware and software
  • Infrastructure: central ICT infrastructure (e.g. network, Internet, e-mail)
  • Platforms: central ICT systems (clusters, storage, database servers, web servers)
  • Data management: development and support of database applications
  • Numerics: development and support of the use of numeric methods for the analysis of complex data and simulation of mathematical models

  • NAS storage systems: central high-redundancy and high-availability storage system
  • Linux cluster: multifunctional calculation cluster
  • Terminal services: worldwide access to the ICT systems of the Center (desktop virtualization and VPN)
  • VoIP: IP-based telephone system for unified communications
  • Internet services: e-mail, intranet and Internet connection, DNS
  • Database server: DB2, MSSQL, MySQL, Ingres, ADABAS
