Academic Career and Research Areas

Marie is an expert in epidemiology and PI of the birth cohorts GINIplus and LISA for the Munich study center, which are followed-up to the age of 25 years and contribute to several consortia. As a statistician by training, she is experienced in the analysis of longitudinal epidemiological studies investigating health data.

During her PhD, Marie identified novel genetic risk variants for atopic eczema and analysed the role of fatty acids as well as gene-nutrient interactions in allergic diseases. As a postdoc, Marie expanded on this research within the Helmholtz Munich Postdoctoral fellowship program. Within her working group, which was funded in 2018 and is supported by an ERC starting grant, Marie aims to identify relevant sub-groups at risk for development of allergic disease or progression to severe disease, better understand environmental risk and protective factors and underlying mechanisms for the development of targeted prevention strategies.
