School visit

Starting in 2017, members of epigenetics @HMGU  annually host a group of high school students for a day of hands-on experiments and getting to know about careers in life sciences.

Hosted in the Institute of Epigenetics and Stem Cells in Großhadern, researchers introduced the group to chromatin organization and the importance of interdisciplinary research through presentations and practical exercises. Students had the opportunity to perform a PCR experiment to identify mutant and wild-type cell lines, as well as learn about live confocal microscopy, modelling transcription factor binding with computational approaches and the importance of image analysis. In addition, students performed DNA extraction and restriction enzyme digests and discussed scientific careers and education with our researchers.

The epigenetics @HMGU community is an international, multi-disciplinary group of researchers committed to advancing scientific knowledge and communicating these advancements together with the importance of the scientific process to the public.
