Career development

Professional career development is the key element of the Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at Helmholtz Zentrum München. The fellows are integrated into international and interdisciplinary research groups. A personal coach, an experienced research mentor and the head of the institute or research unit  support each postdoctoral fellow in creating an individual career development plan. This plan will identify and define the important steps to navigate an effective career path towards scientific leadership positions in academic research or industry.

The personal coach supports the fellows in identifying their skills, major research interests and development needs as well as their career goals. Together they will define the next steps to advance the fellow’s career.

Joint training modules promote the fellows’ professional development and train their leadership, management and communication skills. Five modules (2-3 days each) are scheduled within the first 2 years of the program. If the fellows identify further training needs, additional training is offered by Human Resources Development.

Specialists for third party funding at the Center provide individual support in applying for grants.
