Systems Biology of Small Molecules

Our junior research group in brief

Welcome to the new research group 'Systems Biology of Small Molecules' at the Institute of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology at the Helmholtz Zentrum München - German Research Center for Environmental Health.

We are interested in understanding the function of small molecules in biological systems, their phenotypic effects, and their role in diseases. We aim to understand the molecular mechanisms that translate perturbations of biological systems caused by small molecules into phenotypic effects. This knowledge will give us insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying a disturbed biological system such as a disease. Ultimately, we would like to be able to predict how to interfere with diseases using small molecules.

We follow an integrative approach where diverse data sets with phenotypic information on chemicals, genes, and diseases are interrogated and analyzed using computational methods in order to identify common molecular links among them.
