PhD candidate in Mathematics at Technical University of Munich (TUM) with a guest contract at Helmholtz Zentrum München. Supervised by Prof. Fabian Theis at the Institute of Computational Biology.

Research Interests

I am interested in describing cellular development on a gene expression level using tools from machine learning. To this end, I work both on applied projects which seek to uncover novel biological insights as well as on methodological projects which aim at strengthening our tool set. On the applied side, I work on projects in direct neuronal reprogramming as well as thymic development and regeneration in collaboration with experimental labs from Munich and Boston. On the methodological side, I seek to incorporate novel experimental developments into trajectory inference algorithms in order to describe cellular trajectories more accurately. The algorithms I develop are based on unsupervised machine learning techniques including deep learning. 

 

Funding

My PhD position is funded through the Munich Center for Machine Learning. Additionally, I was awarded an add-on fellowship for interdisciplinary life sciences by the Joachim Herz Stiftung and an Otto Bayer scholarship by the Bayer Foundations. Further, I am a member of the Graduate School of Quantitative Biosciences Munich (QBM) as well as the graduate school HELENA of Helmholtz Zentrum München.
